Emerald Star was originally laid down in 1939 and constructed to be a fishing vessel. However the war put paid to the project and she was purchased by Stan Hegarty and completed by him as a ferry. Over a period of several years two of his employees commuted to Brooklyn to complete the vessel after which the hull was towed to Drummoyne by Sunrise Star for fitting out.

In 1942 she entered service as one of the Hegarty ferries and continued in this role until 2003 before being sold and refitted as a charter vessel.

The Emerald Star is carvel planked timber construction, sheer line stepped at bulwarks for aft open deck. approx 50 tonnes, single deck with raked stem currently powered by Grey Marine ( Detroit ) 671 Diesel, dry stacked c/w Twin Disc hydraulic gearbox with 75mm main shaft and hydraulic steering.
