Manly Marineland one weekday winter's evening. Manly Wharf in the background. It will be a bit after 5.30 pm and the ferry Baragoola has just disembarked a full load of city commuters to their buses.

Baragoola @ Manly Wharf one winter weekday evening. According to the clock it's about 5.40 pm. She's just disembarked a full load of commuters who took the 5 pm trip from Circular Quay.

Meanwhile back in Sydney, North Head will have recently departed the Quay with an even fuller complement of commuters on the 5.30 pm trip. They'll be rounding Bradley's Head about now and most on board will be sitting in their seats reading either the Sydney Sun or the Daily Mirror - the two big afternoon tabloid papers in those days. Ferries buses and trains will all be replete with home-bound commuters reading these newspapers. There will not be an iPhone, android or tablet in sight.

The 1922-built Manly ferry Baragoola en route to Sydney from Manly. Bunch of kids roaming the upper deck. Looks like a school excursion to me. They all appear about the same age.

Baragoola arriving at Manly Wharf early one Sunday morning. I am a kid on his L plates at this time and my mother has very kindly driven with me (ie me doing the driving) down to Manly on this morning.

Skipper up on Baragoola's bridge is Capt Ron Hart. I will do the return trip to Sydney with him and spend the day in the city avec camera.
